Gorge Falls

deep chute of carved conglomerate

Sitting in the middle of Black River Falls is a deep chute of well-worn conglomerate rock and a waterfall tumbling down it. Gorge Falls is a fun-looking drop, with a deep pool underneath that is tempting but far too dangerous to simple jump in. A well-placed viewing platform makes eyeing up this area of river very easy.

Directions

Head up the scenic Route 513 from Bessemer and, about 10 miles past Big Powderhorn, there will be a drive to the right for Potawatomi and Gorge Falls. Turn here and park at the parking lot. Follow the trail to the river, watching for signs for Gorge Falls, and you may need to go downstream along the boardwalks a short distance to get a good viewing angle.
