Potluck Falls

tiny, squeezed drop near an old railroad grade

Potluck Falls is a small drop on an unnamed tributary of Harlow Lake. The creek drains some of the swamps aroung {{link=“blog/wetmore-hike-part-c-hogsback-mountain” anchor=“Hogsback Mountain”}} before running alongside the old railroad grade and over the falls. Sliding along the outside of some huge, rounded boulders, the waterfall is narrow but rather tall.

Directions

The goal is to reach the stretch of old railroad grade that connects Harlow Lake with Wetmore Pond. One of the more direct routes would be to park near the large gravel pit just north of Sugarloaf, about 4 miles north of Marquette, and follow either the road through the pit or the wooded trail next to it up to the grade. Once you reach the grade turn left and follow it south to the falls, which are audible from the grade.

Otherwise, this spot makes an excellent side destination for visitors of Wetmore Pond and/or Hogsback Mountain.
