Farmstead Falls

gentle slide into a huge, calm pool

There is a long chain of waterfalls along the Middle Branch Escanaba River south of the Tilden Mine tailing ponds. Most of the drops are inaccessible, with private property and cabins lining both sides of the river, and Farmstead Falls may well be one of them. Several cabins surround the gentle slide and large downstream pool.

Directions

About 5.5 miles north of Gwinn and 11 miles south of Palmer, County Road 565 heads west of M-35 near a bridge over Middle Branch Escanaba. Follow 565 for five miles and turn left on PPH. Follow PPH for a mile and then take a right turn. Follow this track for another 1.2 miles and park at the overgrown clearing on the right side. Meander through this clearing and veer to the left to see the falls on the far side of the pool.
