Morgan Falls

sharp, rocky ending to a sandy creek

Morgan Falls is formed with Morgan Creek, a sandy little creek south of Negaunee and Marquette, drops suddenly down a steep rock slide to join up with Carp River. The rock it flows over is an unforgiving volcanic wall, a dramatic end for an otherwise gentle flow of water, but it does create an impressive curtain of loud white water that easily drowns out the rapids of Carp River for a brief time.

Directions

Park either in the northern lots for Marquette Mountain (just south of Marquette on County Road 553) or up along Marquette Mountain Road (the first two-track leading west from 553 past Marquette Mountain). Follow the river upstream to Morgan Creek, which is downstream from Carp River Falls. If you take the northern route there will be a beaten path leading down to the falls 1.3 miles down Marquette Mountain Road.

Visits

Seen in April.

  1. a loud rushing curtain of whitewater

I followed the path to Morgan Creek and then took the creek a short distance downstream to a loud rushing curtain of whitewater. Morgan Falls never disappoints. I stood next to the loud waterfall, letting the noise and soft mist rush over me, and slowly made a circle around. Last time I was here I was stuck on the far side of the river, unable to get more than a glimpse of this impressive drop, so I took my time here today.

  2. Morgan Falls showed up with a mocking roar that drowned out the larger river it flowed into. A solid curtain of white poured down from the opposite bank to form an impressive drop. An impressive drop that I could not approach. Carp River was too wide and too full to try crossing.

Can't park by the entrance for Marquette Mt Road. You'll be ticketed if you do.
