Silver Creek Falls

A small, scenic waterfall, Silver Creek Falls plunges down a steep conglomerate rock into a deep little pool surrounded by mossy rock walls and overhanging cedars. Taller, but less steep, drops above the main drop slide and fan over a wide creek bed.

Directions

Driving southwest out of Eagle River turn right just out of town onto 5 Mile Point Road. Park on the shoulder of the road at 1.8 miles before crossing over the creek’s bridge (which is more of a culvert far below the road than a bridge). Follow the east bank of the creek, sticking to the trails past the log clutter at first, then cutting down to see the falls.

Visits

  1. still snowy

    A quick visit, only hiking along the snowy creek long enough to catch a partial view of the little drop before heading back out. There was too much snow up here still, that was for sure.

  2. I drove us up Five Mile Road, marking on my GPS where Silver Creek crosses under, as if I couldn't find that on a map.

  3. Here the creek squeezed into a narrow gorge, forcing me back up on the banks for a bit, but I was still able to get close to the drop from the downstream angle. While the drop was difficult to reach and view it was still a pretty little thing surrounded by dark rocks and moss.

    East side access to the falls was heavily marked private property when attempting to visit a couple days ago.

    We own the property on the west side of the falls. Even if you have permission, a large portion of the trail along Silver Creek collapsed a few years ago due to a lot of snow melt. It is now more difficult to access the falls because you can't follow the creek the entire way anymore.

    Any update on access would be appreciated. My husband snorkeled in the falls 40 years ago and wants to show to our daughter this summer. Renting an AirBNB late July this year🌻is there still a trail?
